Even Notoriety Can't Sell a House in Today's Housing Market

I was, and continue to be, a huge fan of the 1980's movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". A well-known scene in the movie is when Cameron Frye goes into a meltdown and unintentionally causes his father's Ferrari to go crashing through a floor-to-ceiling window into the woods surrounding the house.  That house, located in Highland Park, Illinois, went on the market in 2009 and remains on the market today.

The house boasts mid-century modern architecture and is over 5,000 square feet, with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and room for 6 cars. It was originally listed at $2.3 million, was reduced to $1.8 million in the spring of 2010 and was reduced again to $1.65 million this past fall. Click here for a link to the listing information.

It provides a perfect illustration that the pain we are all feeling in the housing market today is widespread and affects home owners all over the country at all economic levels.

You would think that some 80's kid would love to buy that house, but it may not just be the tough economic times. Instead it could be location, location, location, that is a major factor.
